About the Internship Apply Now

The IACS Leadership Internship is an eight-week long paid summer internship that provides a unique opportunity for college students of Indian descent to learn about the U.S. legislative and public policy-making process. Selected candidates will have an opportunity to intern at the offices of U.S. Senate and House lawmakers or in House and Senate leadership offices. Interns usually are assigned administrative support tasks like answering phones, responding to constituent requests, researching for pending bills and assisting with event planning and press conferences. Interns will have an opportunity to participate in educational seminars, leadership mentoring/training sessions and to visit cultural and historical sites in Washington D.C. Alumni will return to their communities knowing what it takes to pass legislation and how they can influence public policymaking.

Stipend

IACS will provide a stipend of $2000 upon successful completion of this eight-week program. Interns should be prepared to travel to the offices they are placed in for the internship.

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident with permit to work in the U.S.
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at a U.S. college or university.
  • Filled in application along with all required application material by Mar. 5, 2017

Application process

Selection to the IACS Leadership Internship program is highly competitive and is based on a variety of factors. Including the following

  • Scholastic achievement
  • Strong writing skills (One 8x11 one page essay supporting application required)
  • Community service contributions
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Interview performance
  • Resume (Attach to the application)
  • Cover letter - Optional (Attach to the application)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (email to internships@iacsinfo.org and type “IACS- LIP-2017 - Applicant Name” in Subject line.

An IACS selection committee will review all applications and may interview some of the applicants that are submitted by the deadline and Finalists will be notified by IACS.

How to apply

Candidates who are interested in applying for the internship should submit the application online at www.iacsinfo.org.

The completed application MUST BE SUBMITTED ON OR BEFORE MARCH 5, 2017.

Along with the application, all candidates are also required to submit a short 500-word essay on any one of the following topics

  • How will IACS’ summer internship benefit you and your community?
  • What are the major issues facing us today that you would like to see addressed by your state government and why?
  • What actions should Indian American community take in order to make an impact on leaders in political affairs of the state/nation?
